Training and Events Calendar
The Academy Training and Events calendar is an easy-to-use resource for healthcare professionals across all settings of care and specialties looking for educational opportunities to further their knowledge of integrating behavioral health with primary care. Some training opportunities are available as in-person meetings while others are conducted via live webinar. Opportunities are updated weekly, and the “filter” function can be used to search fields such as event type, location (virtual or in-person), CE/CME availability, and topic. Opportunities are identified from federal agencies and non-federal organizations, academic institutions, government agencies, and member associations conducting work in behavioral health integration.

This session, hosted by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), explores the science of opioid addiction and withdrawal for direct service providers, equipping them with knowledge to better support fathers in recovery. The session is presented from a “user” perspective by fathers in recovery. It will provide an accessible and easy to understand evidence-based look at how addiction impacts the brain and hijacks the reward system, the challenges of withdrawal and long-term abstinence for persons with opioid use disorder (OUD), the impact of subcultures and stigma on treatment and recovery, and the role of trauma and mental health in sustained recovery.

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), in 2019, only 10% of adults in the U.S with any substance use disorder (SUD) received treatment in part because effective evidence-based treatments for SUDs can be difficult to access in many communities. Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHCs) help address this issue, delivering easily accessible outpatient behavioral health care and SUD treatment through activities including expanded operating hours, same-day appointments, outreach to sidelined populations and moving service delivery beyond clinic walls to reach people in their homes and in the community.

GRAND Mental Health operates 31 clinics and the largest residential substance use treatment center in Oklahoma. By creating immediate access to quality care in the least restrictive environments, GRAND saw 30,000 clients statewide in 2024 and a 93.1% reduction in SUD-related hospitalizations in 2021.

In this webinar, hosted by the Providers Clinical Support System – Medications for Opioid Use Disorders (PCSS-MOUD), attendees will:

Discuss the value of the CCBHC model in delivering MOUD services and sustaining OUD treatment.

Describe the successful programmatic and service delivery attributes of a CCBHC Crisis Center that focuses on SUD and a collaboration between a CCBHC and residential SUD treatment facility.

Outline how CCBHCs implement evaluation processes, including tracking service models and utilizing data.

Webinar attendees will earn 1 hour of CEU credits for this session.

Join the Providers Clinical Support System – Medications for Alcohol Use Disorder (PCSS-MAUD) and the National Council for Mental Wellbeing for this case-based discussion, which will cover alcohol use and AUD among youth in rural areas. It will also discuss related legal challenges, including the role of the justice and child welfare systems and MAUD. Attendees will learn from a respected public health leader with expertise in mental health and justice system reform, before diving into topical discussions of case scenarios.

The 2023 National Survey on Drug Use and Health and other studies have uncovered alarming data about youth alcohol use and justice system involvement:

3.3 million youth (12-20 years old) reported binge drinking at least once in the past month.

Rates of alcohol use are higher for rural youth (37.8%) than for urban youth (34.3%).

In 2020, over 400,000 youth under 18 were arrested in the U.S.
80% of minors in state juvenile justice systems were arrested while under the influence of drugs or alcohol or for a drug or alcohol offense, tested positive for drugs, disclosed self-reported substance use challenges or some combination of these.

Higher rates of alcohol use among rural youth and alcohol-related juvenile justice involvement may in part be due to family and peer influence, as well as overall limited access to MAUD and alcohol treatment among youth.

Fewer than 10% of youth in need of substance use treatment receive it, particularly in rural communities.
Staff from juvenile justice, child welfare, clinical, health care and other settings can provide effective, coordinated, trauma-informed care in tandem with MAUD. This care can be a pathway to more engaged youth and better health and legal outcomes for youth in rural areas.

Educational objectives:

Identify legal and other challenges related to youth alcohol use in rural settings.

Explore the ways juvenile justice and child welfare can work together to manage youth drinking and post-release care.

Apply trauma-informed, developmentally appropriate strategies to real-world case scenarios.

Substance use contributes to a range of complex public health challenges. While synthetic opioids remain central to the overdose crisis, deaths related to stimulants and alcohol are escalating. Beyond these medical concerns, the broader ripple effects are often overlooked, particularly the role of substance use in child neglect, family disruption and interpersonal violence. In today’s fragmented systems, these impacts are frequently addressed in silos, leading to gaps in care and missed opportunities for prevention and intervention

The National Council for Mental Wellbeing, with support from the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry and the Opioid Response Network, has developed a dynamic, four-part, interactive series for behavioral health providers and system leaders. The series explores the current fragmented landscape of substance use care and envisions an innovative, fully integrated future. Each session dives into one key sector, including health care, child welfare and schools, highlighting real-world challenges, cross-system opportunities and forward-thinking strategies to create a unified continuum of care that meets individuals and families where they are. A certificate of completion will be provided for attending the entire series.

Substance use and mental health often co-occur, yet psychiatric systems frequently treat these conditions in parallel rather than in tandem. Session 3 explores how psychiatric hospitals, crisis stabilization units, and behavioral health centers can better integrate substance use screening, treatment, and recovery planning. Participants will examine care coordination models, address barriers to integrated workflows, and explore strategies for building a unified, person-centered approach that addresses both psychiatric and substance use needs holistically.

This webinar, hosted by the Clinical Providers Support System - Medications for Opioid Use Disorder (PCSS-MOUD), will explore the Stages of Change model and how it can help providers identify and overcome impediments getting in the way of opioid use disorder (OUD) treatment and services. Participants will hear from a leading expert with 25+ years of experience in behavioral health and wellness.

Currently, anywhere from 6.7 to 7.6 million US adults have an OUD. Despite the availability of medications for OUD, only 25% of people with OUD in need of treatment actively seek out or receive recommended MOUD. Research has identified that perceived hurdles to treatment include affordability, lack of access, lack of readiness, stigma, provider-bias, lack of trust in treatment and treatment not being a priority.

The Stages of Change model can be a useful tool for providers to address challenges related to lack of readiness, stigma, and bias. By applying this model in OUD services in conjunction with MOUD and other behavioral health supports, providers can successfully engage patients in care and improve their chances of sustained long-term change.

Objectives:

Discuss how the Stages of Change model applies to OUD care.

Identify obstacles to accessing care + MOUD utilization, as well as skills and opportunities to engage with clients for change at each stage.

Explore practical strategies for creating stage-appropriate client engagement.
