Training and Events Calendar
The Academy Training and Events calendar is an easy-to-use resource for healthcare professionals across all settings of care and specialties looking for educational opportunities to further their knowledge of integrating behavioral health with primary care. Some training opportunities are available as in-person meetings while others are conducted via live webinar. Opportunities are updated weekly, and the “filter” function can be used to search fields such as event type, location (virtual or in-person), CE/CME availability, and topic. Opportunities are identified from federal agencies and non-federal organizations, academic institutions, government agencies, and member associations conducting work in behavioral health integration.

Older Adults face unique challenges across many domains of daily life. Although this can be a time of hope and joy, challenges related to natural physical aging processes and health, changes in roles, relationships with family and friends, loss of loved ones and more can also make this stage of life a complicated time. This can be compounded further by mental health and substance use challenges, especially for those with complex mental health conditions (such as severe mental illness or SMI) and comorbid health conditions. Given these challenges, older adults can benefit from specialized supports and resources, especially when in crisis. This webinar, hosted by the National Council for Mental Wellbeing, will focus on both individual and systemic approaches to help support older adults.Participants will learn:Understanding crisis response for older adults experiencing grief and loss.Tools individuals can use to support older adult communities experiencing loss, grief, compassion fatigue and burnout.About how some states have created successful and strong partnerships including between providers, state agencies and Medicaid.About the critical role of peer support for older adults.

The urgency of preparing current professionals to meet this growing need has never been greater. National Center for Health Workforce Analysis (NCHWA) projections have found that substantial shortages are projected across key roles—including mental health counselors, marriage and family therapists, addiction counselors, and social workers—by 2037. These shortages are driven not only by increased demand, but also by burnout, limited scopes of practice, and gaps in ongoing training. This month’s Workforce Solutions Jam, hosted by the National Council for Mental Wellbeing, will spotlight how higher education institutions are innovating to close workforce readiness gaps and ensure that current professionals are equipped, supported, and retained to meet increasingly complex care needs. Panelists from leading universities will share real-world examples of how they are aligning academic programs with workforce realities, expanding access to continuing education, and partnering with employers to strengthen the behavioral health pipeline.Key highlights of this webinar include:Explore strategies for upskilling existing professionals to meet emerging and evolving demands in behavioral health care.Understand how academic programs are partnering with employers to align training with real-world needs and expectations.Learn about innovative models for continuing education and professional development that support retention and career growth.

Substance use contributes to a range of complex public health challenges. While synthetic opioids remain central to the overdose crisis, deaths related to stimulants and alcohol are escalating. Beyond these medical concerns, the broader ripple effects are often overlooked, particularly the role of substance use in child neglect, family disruption and interpersonal violence. In today’s fragmented systems, these impacts are frequently addressed in silos, leading to gaps in care and missed opportunities for prevention and interventionThe National Council for Mental Wellbeing, with support from the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry and the Opioid Response Network, has developed a dynamic, four-part, interactive series for behavioral health providers and system leaders. The series explores the current fragmented landscape of substance use care and envisions an innovative, fully integrated future. Each session dives into one key sector, including health care, child welfare and schools, highlighting real-world challenges, cross-system opportunities and forward-thinking strategies to create a unified continuum of care that meets individuals and families where they are. A certificate of completion will be provided for attending the entire series.Session 2 will discuss the critical role schools play in prevention, early detection, and wraparound support for students impacted by familial or personal substance use, and explore partnerships that break down referral barriers.

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), in 2019, only 10% of adults in the U.S with any substance use disorder (SUD) received treatment in part because effective evidence-based treatments for SUDs can be difficult to access in many communities. Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHCs) help address this issue, delivering easily accessible outpatient behavioral health care and SUD treatment through activities including expanded operating hours, same-day appointments, outreach to sidelined populations and moving service delivery beyond clinic walls to reach people in their homes and in the community.GRAND Mental Health operates 31 clinics and the largest residential substance use treatment center in Oklahoma. By creating immediate access to quality care in the least restrictive environments, GRAND saw 30,000 clients statewide in 2024 and a 93.1% reduction in SUD-related hospitalizations in 2021.In this webinar, hosted by the Providers Clinical Support System – Medications for Opioid Use Disorders (PCSS-MOUD), attendees will:Discuss the value of the CCBHC model in delivering MOUD services and sustaining OUD treatment.Describe the successful programmatic and service delivery attributes of a CCBHC Crisis Center that focuses on SUD and a collaboration between a CCBHC and residential SUD treatment facility.Outline how CCBHCs implement evaluation processes, including tracking service models and utilizing data.

Session 3 explores how psychiatric hospitals, crisis stabilization units, and behavioral health centers can better integrate substance use screening, treatment, and recovery planning. Participants will examine care coordination models, address barriers to integrated workflows, and explore strategies for building a unified, person-centered approach that addresses both psychiatric and substance use needs holistically.
