This webinar, hosted by the Clinical Providers Support System - Medications for Opioid Use Disorder (PCSS-MOUD), will explore the Stages of Change model and how it can help providers identify and overcome impediments getting in the way of opioid use disorder (OUD) treatment and services. Participants will hear from a leading expert with 25+ years of experience in behavioral health and wellness.

Currently, anywhere from 6.7 to 7.6 million US adults have an OUD. Despite the availability of medications for OUD, only 25% of people with OUD in need of treatment actively seek out or receive recommended MOUD. Research has identified that perceived hurdles to treatment include affordability, lack of access, lack of readiness, stigma, provider-bias, lack of trust in treatment and treatment not being a priority.

The Stages of Change model can be a useful tool for providers to address challenges related to lack of readiness, stigma, and bias. By applying this model in OUD services in conjunction with MOUD and other behavioral health supports, providers can successfully engage patients in care and improve their chances of sustained long-term change.

Objectives:

Discuss how the Stages of Change model applies to OUD care.

Identify obstacles to accessing care + MOUD utilization, as well as skills and opportunities to engage with clients for change at each stage.

Explore practical strategies for creating stage-appropriate client engagement.

Substance use contributes to a range of complex public health challenges. While synthetic opioids remain central to the overdose crisis, deaths related to stimulants and alcohol are escalating. Beyond these medical concerns, the broader ripple effects are often overlooked, particularly the role of substance use in child neglect, family disruption and interpersonal violence. In today’s fragmented systems, these impacts are frequently addressed in silos, leading to gaps in care and missed opportunities for prevention and intervention

The National Council for Mental Wellbeing, with support from the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry and the Opioid Response Network, has developed a dynamic, four-part, interactive series for behavioral health providers and system leaders. The series explores the current fragmented landscape of substance use care and envisions an innovative, fully integrated future. Each session dives into one key sector, including health care, child welfare and schools, highlighting real-world challenges, cross-system opportunities and forward-thinking strategies to create a unified continuum of care that meets individuals and families where they are. A certificate of completion will be provided for attending the entire series.

People with Substance Use disorders often have co-morbid health conditions that go unaddressed, leading to high levels of morbidity and mortality. Session 4 will focus on integrated substance use and primary care delivery models that enhance patient care and improve long-term outcomes.

Professional codes of ethics provide a common set of principles and standards upon which behavioral healthcare teams build their professional work. They have as their goals the welfare and protection of the individuals and groups with whom providers work. They require a lifelong effort to act ethically; to encourage ethical behavior by students, supervisees, employees, and colleagues; and to consult with others concerning ethical problems.

This webinar, hosted by the Indian Health Service (IHS), examines the complex relationship between the personal values and ethics of the patient, the non-prescribing behavioral healthcare team and the mental health medication healthcare team in the provision of ethically responsible care for a person receiving both mental health medications and psychosocial behavioral health interventions.

Objectives:

Analyze ethical dilemmas commonly faced by behavioral health non-prescribers regarding patients considering the option to receive mental health medications.

Examine ethical dilemmas when providing psychosocial behavioral health interventions in conjunction with a provider prescribing mental health medications.

Identify ethical dilemmas regarding cultural diversity, patient autonomy, truth-telling, and doing no harm regarding the prescription of mental health medications.

Determine how the non-prescriber can best advocate for ethically responsible care for a person receiving both mental health medications and psychosocial behavioral health interventions.

Credits: 1 hour of ACCME, ANCC, AAPA, ASWB, APA
To receive a certificate of continuing education, participantsmust electronically sign-in for the session, participate in the entire live internet activity and complete the online evaluation.

Behavioral health issues, particularly anxiety, are prevalent in primary care settings. It is essential to implement brief interventions for anxiety to effectively address the needs of patients.
