IHS: Behavioral Health Integration Webinar Series: Integrated Care Within and Beyond the Clinic Wall

-

The integration of healthcare in tribal communities necessitates flexibility and collaboration between Western medical practices and Indigenous healing traditions. This session will examine how integrating these models can foster a more comprehensive and culturally responsive approach to care. We will examine strategies for incorporating traditional medicine and healing practices into clinical settings, as well as methods for delivering culturally informed health education both within clinics and in the community. Such educational initiatives will promote prevention, intervention, and postvention for chronic health conditions, encompassing both medical and behavioral aspects. Additionally, we will explore how technological solutions, including telemedicine and remote patient monitoring, can mitigate access barriers and extend the reach of integrated care.

Objectives:

  1. Identify strategies for integrating Indigenous medicine and healing practices into clinic-based care.
  2. Examine how culturally informed health education, both within clinics and in the community, improves prevention, intervention, and postvention for chronic medical and behavioral health conditions.
  3. Collaborate with community-based services, such as community health workers and diabetes educators to enhance integrated care.
  4. Implement telemedicine and remote patient monitoring to patients facing access barriers.
  5. Employ successful strategies grantee programs have applied to strengthen integrated care in their communities.
