This module, funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), is designed to help substance use disorder (SUD) treatment providers and other providers determine whether records related to their Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) services are protected by the federal confidentiality law and regulations for SUD treatment records, 42 USC § 290dd-2 and 42 CFR Part 2.
By the end of this module, participants will be able to:
- Identify the federal privacy laws that apply to SUD treatment records.
- Determine when Part 2 applies to SBIRT services.
- Recognize how to obtain additional resources related to protected health information through the Center of Excellence for Protected Health Information.
