The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine's (NASEM's) Forum on Advancing Diagnostic Excellence will host a hybrid public workshop on October 14 to identify opportunities for improving diagnosis in rural areas across the U.S. Leading experts will explore strategies such as:
- Delivering patient-centered care that considers complex factors contributing to health disparities.
- Reducing access barriers by addressing the availability of primary and specialized care, overcoming geographic barriers, and improving care coordination.
- Leveraging diagnostic innovations, including AI tools, telehealth, and remote diagnostics to enhance real-time clinical decision-making and data sharing.
- Supporting and strengthening rural health care professionals through improved specialized training, inter-professional collaboration, and approaches to reduce diagnostic delays.
- Scaling rural strategies to inform diagnostic improvement efforts in other underserved areas.
