IHS: Supporting Children with Neurodevelopmental Disorders in Medical Settings

This webinar, hosted by the Indian Health Service (IHS), will focus on developing providers’ skills in educating and supporting families/caregivers in recognizing the unique challenges for children with neurodevelopmental disorders may face in medical and behavioral health settings, identifying possible communication barriers for children with neurodevelopmental disorders, their families, and medical and behavioral healthcare teams, and providing families/caregivers with resources for supporting children with neurodevelopmental disorders in medical and behavioral health settings. Teaching tools will include resources for providers and families and a quick facts page for providers.

Objectives: 

  1. Educate families/caregivers in recognizing the unique challenges that children with neurodevelopmental disorders may face in medical and behavioral settings.
  2. Identify possible communication barriers for children with neurodevelopmental disorders, their families, and medical and behavioral healthcare teams.
  3. Provide families/caregivers of children with neurodevelopmental disorders with resources to support their child in medical and behavioral health settings.
