Navigating Consent and Respecting Autonomy in Treatment for those with Serious Mental Illness

-

At the heart of quality health care is respect for the individual. This includes people with serious mental illness (SMI). The National Council for Mental Wellbeing is excited to share a virtual training focused on the importance of autonomy and agency in working with people with SMI.

Attendees will be invited to examine the concepts of autonomy and agency and how these concepts influence practice and are reflected in it. The session will pair overarching concepts with practical application and valuable insights from both a subject matter expert and recovery advocate.

Attendees will:

  • Increase understanding of the concepts of patient/client autonomy and agency.
  • Identify practical application of autonomy and agency in services for those with SMI.
  • Explore how the application of these concepts may impact the experiences of those receiving services.
