Community-Driven Approaches: Effective programming to support those affected by a death by suicide

-

When someone dies by suicide, many are left alone, struggling through their grief. The bereavement period of a death can exacerbate or initiate mental health conditions and serious mental illness for those left trying to cope. This session will highlight the impactful work of LOSS Teams (Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors), which provide immediate support to those impacted by a death by suicide within hours or days after the event.

LOSS Teams are composed of trained individuals who have experienced a similar loss and offer emotional care, practical help, and strategies for navigating the complex grief process.

This 60-minute session will discuss:

  • The impact a death by suicide can have on the mental and emotional health of those grieving.
  • The structure of LOSS teams and their unique approach to community & peer support.
  • How LOSS teams are making a difference in the mental health of those affected by a death by suicide.

Live closed captioning and ASL interpreters will be available for this webinar.
