This session is part of the National Alliance for HIV Education and Workforce Development's (NAHEWD's) national webinar series, Bridging HIV and SUD: Innovations in the Field. The series will highlight various innovative models and approaches to treating substance use disorder (SUD) in people at risk for and living with HIV.
This presentation will explore the integration of substance use disorder (SUD) treatment with HIV care, focusing on the SBIRT method. The webinar is to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively merge SUD treatment with HIV care using the SBIRT approach.
- Understand Epidemiological Links: Explain the relationship between substance use disorders and HIV, including how substance use can influence HIV transmission, treatment adherence, and overall patient outcomes.
- Understanding the SBIRT Approach. Define the components of the SBIRT model (Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment) and discuss its applicability in HIV care settings.
- Application of SBIRT in HIV Care: Analyze common challenges and opportunities in integrating SBIRT into HIV care and propose practical solutions to overcome barriers to effective service delivery.
