The National Council for Mental Wellbeing’s Youth Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (YSBIRT) training helps participants identify, reduce and prevent risky alcohol and drug use among youth. Research shows that early identification and intervention decreases the long-term likelihood of substance use disorder, and YSBIRT is an integrated, comprehensive approach that facilitates that process.
Administrators or clinicians new to YSBIRT, or looking for a refresher on best practices, are encouraged to join this session.
The training will cover:
- How YSBIRT fits into integrated and trauma-informed care.
- Using evidence-based screening tools to identify levels of risk in adolescents.
- How brief interventions increase engagement, prompt behavior change and reduce counterproductive discussions.
- Best practices for facilitating access to specialized services for youth at higher risk.
