Alcohol Use Disorder - New Publications

Date

The Substance Use and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) recently posted a new guide regarding health policy for alcohol use disorder (AUD). Published in November, Implementing Community-Level Policies to Prevent Alcohol Misuse is meant to “serve as a compendium of key policies for the prevention of alcohol misuse that have been identified as evidence-based by robust scientific literature”[1]. Also see the Guide Overview of this publication for a summary.

In addition, as part of its 50th Anniversary, the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) produced NIAAA 50th Anniversary Festschrift topic series. A new topic in the series, Looking Back, Looking Forward: Current Medications and Innovative Potential Medications to Treat AUD, was published to Volume 42 of the Alcohol Research: Current Reviews (ARCR) scientific journal in October. “This article describes the characteristics, benefits, and risks of the FDA-approved medications for AUD; evaluates the benefits and risks of novel drugs repurposed for the treatment of AUD; and appraises novel drug targets that are in the pipeline”[2].
