Medication Considerations

This provincial evidence-based guideline articulates the full range of therapeutic options for the optimal treatment of adults and youth with varying presentations of opioid use disorder. It is intended for use for all British Colombia (BC) physicians, nursing and allied health professionals, and other care providers involved in the treatment of individuals with opioid use disorder. 

Maternal Mortality Review Committees (MMRCs) are multi-disciplinary committees that convene at the state or local level to comprehensively review deaths of women during or within a year of pregnancy. This document summarizes substance use disorder findings in a recent review of MMRC data in 14 states.

This is a toolkit on addressing pain in patients with opioid use disorder (OUD) and managing medication for addiction treatment (MAT) during the perioperative/postpartum period.

The following checklist intends to support health care teams in providing evidence-based recommendations for treating pregnant and postpartum patients with OUD. The checklist is divided into five sections, sequenced by timing of presentation to care.

The Drug Free Moms and Babies (DFMB) Project is a comprehensive and integrative medical and behavioral health program for pregnant and postpartum women. The project supports healthy baby outcomes by providing prevention, early intervention, addiction treatment, and recovery support services.

UNC Horizons is a substance use disorder treatment program for women, including those who are pregnant, parenting, and/or whose lives have been touched by abuse and violence.

The Project RESPECT team supports patients throughout their recovery journey during the entire first year postpartum and offer monitored, acute substance withdrawal treatment and induction of medications for opioid use disorder in pregnant patients seeking treatment.
