This Advisory is based on TIP 35, Enhancing Motivation for Change in Substance Use Disorder Treatment. It addresses the spirit, application, and fundamentals of motivational interviewing (MI), discusses how practitioners can effectively employ MI in substance use disorder (SUD) treatment, and provides tools that practitioners can use to encourage and promote lasting positive outcomes for their clients.

This Advisory is based on TIP 27, Comprehensive Case Management for Substance Abuse Treatment. It surveys the underlying principles and models of case management, discusses reasons substance use disorder (SUD) treatment providers might consider implementing or expanding the use of case management, and lists some case management-related resources and tools.

This module introduces family support professionals and other service providers to basic information about the importance of medication compliance, and provides an understanding of how pregnant and parenting women being treated for behavioral health or medical conditions may be non-compliant or misuse medications. It prepares service providers to recognize women who may be at risk for noncompliance or misuse of medications, develop a plan for referral, and support women with behavioral health problems or medical condition.

This policy brief explores strategies for ensuring people in jails and prisons have uninterrupted access to medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD) during the pandemic. These include taking advantage of a new federal waiver that allows providers to initiate MOUD via telemedicine, without a prior physical examination; providing adequate medication supplies upon release; and offering virtual counseling and peer support.

This program — Support for Hospital Opioid Use Treatment (Project SHOUT) — provides clinical leaders with the tools they need to start and maintain patients on buprenorphine or methadone during hospitalizations for any condition, be it medical, surgical, or obstetric.
