Guidance on Inappropriate Use of Antipsychotics: Older Adults and People with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities in Community Settings

The brief is intended primarily for physicians and other prescribers as well as support staff, administrators, and caregivers working with people with dementia and intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in community settings. To reduce inappropriate prescribing, this brief reviews non-pharmacologic behavioral approaches and strategies to avoid and reduce prescribing of antipsychotics whenever possible.

This webinar recording from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's (SAMHSA) National Hispanic and Latino Addiction Technology Transfer Center on the implications of the opioid crisis in the U.S. Latino population is now available. This webinar discussed the implications of the opioid crisis in the Latino population in the US. It discussed social and cultural factors that cause substance misuse in Latinos. Additionally, barriers to services and treatments are discussed, along with strategies on how to increase engagement and use of services.
