Increased Federal Funding Supports AHRQ Academy Priority Areas

Date

For fiscal year (FY) 2022, the Biden Administration invested $10.7 billion in the Department of Health and Human Services, including funding to expand access to harm reduction and mental health, substance use, and recovery support services. The FY 2022 budget provided $380.0 million for the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ).

The proposed FY 2023 budget includes an additional $65.5 million in discretionary funds for the AHRQ compared to what was allotted in the FY 2022 budget. These funds would continue to support work that informs behavioral health integration, such as:

  • $10 million for research on opioids and polysubstance abuse prevention, management, recovery, and integration
  • $10 million for primary care research
  • $2 million for Centers of Excellence in Telehealth Implementation
