Essential Care for Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder Patients

Date

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine will host a two-part webinar series examining approaches to help ease delivery of key components of care for people with mental health and substance use disorders in primary care settings. The first webinar will explore the landscape of evolving models of care, such as accountable care organizations, patient-centered medical homes, and collaborative care arrangements. The webinar will examine how essential components of care for mental health and substance use disorders might be induced for those care models. Policy issues related to implementation of these models and these essential care components will also be explored.

The second webinar, with panelist and National Integration Academy Council member Dr. Frank deGruy, will highlight approaches to facilitate the delivery of essential components of care for these populations. Illustrative conditions such as depression and substance use disorders will be addressed. This webinar will also explore issues related to prevention, screening, and case identification and offer suggestions for improving care in primary care practices that are well resourced versus those with limited resources.
