Session 3: Sustaining Recovery: Building Systems that Support Whole Health Self-Management

-

Individual self-management skills are most effective when supported by organizations, communities, and healthcare systems that promote recovery-oriented care. Sustainable implementation requires coordinated partnerships among behavioral health providers, primary care organizations, peer support specialists, community agencies, public health systems, and individuals with lived experience. Recovery-oriented systems increasingly rely on implementation science, quality improvement, and data-informed decision-making to ensure that evidence-based practices are successfully adopted, sustained, and continuously improved. This training, hosted by the Central East Addiction Transfer Center Network, examines how organizations can develop systems that support whole health recovery through integrated care, interdisciplinary collaboration, peer workforce development, and continuous quality improvement. Participants will explore implementation frameworks, measurement strategies, and organizational approaches that strengthen recovery-oriented systems of care while advancing health and improving outcomes for individuals living with behavioral health conditions. This is Session 3 of a three-part professional development series, "Whole Health Recovery: Advancing Medical and Psychiatric Chronic Disease Self-Management Series".

By the conclusion of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Design organizational strategies that integrate medical and psychiatric self-management into recovery-oriented systems of care across behavioral health and primary care settings.
  • Analyze the roles of peer support specialists, interdisciplinary teams, community organizations, and healthcare systems in promoting sustained recovery and whole health.
