RMC is a structured intervention that involves ongoing monitoring through regular checkups to assess patients’ treatment needs, prevent and detect relapse early, shorten the time to treatment re-entry if necessary, and facilitate linkages to additional care management and support. The model also employs specialized staff to address treatment barriers and ensure patients engage in treatment and follow-up care, including assistance with scheduling and connecting to additional treatment services.
Research shows that the RMC significantly improves treatment engagement and retention, length of treatment, and sustained recovery. More recent studies have also shown that integrating RMC into primary care settings can enhance linkages to care and better overall health for individuals struggling with SUDs.
