How the BHI Ecosystem Directory Was Created
The Behavioral Health Integration (BHI) Ecosystem Directory was launched in 2025 with an initial group of 22 “pilot” organizations who are highly active in advancing BHI. We aimed to select a representative sample of organizations with a mix of federal programs, professional associations, university-affiliated centers, charitable foundations, research institutes, and other non-profit organizations. The purpose of this pilot was to refine our approach to the Ecosystem and Directory. During the pilot phase, the Integration Academy team met with each pilot organization to get consensus on the most useful Directory fields and names and definitions for the BHI areas of support, which provide the framework of the Ecosystem. Additionally, we were able to test and improve the functionality of this tool with the information from this initial set of organizations.
How the BHI Ecosystem Directory are Being Maintained
Since the initial launch of the Ecosystem Directory with the pilot organizations, new BHI programs and organizations are being added regularly. Our current focus are those organizations making notable contributions across a broad geographic reach. However, the goal is to expand the Ecosystem Directory to include smaller organizations, both at the state and regional levels. The current inclusion and exclusion criteria for organizations added to the Ecosystem Directory are as follows:
Inclusion Criteria
- Integration efforts are national or international in scope.
- Work is focused on integrating behavioral health into primary care settings.
- Serves a relevant audience of BHI stakeholders (providers, patients, policy makers, funders, payers, etc.), considering both audience size and how closely aligned the audience is to the Academy mission.
- Makes notable contributions in one or more of the BHI functions, as indicated by level of endorsement, proliferation, or reach.
Exclusion Criteria
- Integration efforts are state or regional in scope.
- Work is focused on integration of behavioral health into settings other than primary care OR the integration of primary care into behavioral health.
- Primary audience served has limited or no relevancy to the Academy mission.
- Work related to the BHI functions has limited reach, as indicated by limited or no endorsement or proliferation.
