Training and Events Calendar
The Academy Training and Events calendar is an easy-to-use resource for healthcare professionals across all settings of care and specialties looking for educational opportunities to further their knowledge of integrating behavioral health with primary care. Some training opportunities are available as in-person meetings while others are conducted via live webinar. Opportunities are updated weekly, and the “filter” function can be used to search fields such as event type, location (virtual or in-person), CE/CME availability, and topic. Opportunities are identified from federal agencies and non-federal organizations, academic institutions, government agencies, and member associations conducting work in behavioral health integration.

Hosted by the Illinois Association for Behavioral Health (IABH), this webinar will explore Illinois’ newly enacted Wellness and Oversight for Psychological Resources Act (WOPR), the first state law in the nation regulating the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in mental health. Presenters will provide an overview of the law, including its definitions, restrictions, enforcement mechanisms, and the broader intent behind its passage.

Following this, a licensed clinical psychologist, will translate the statute into practical guidance for clinicians, highlighting what the law means for everyday practice. Participants will learn what is prohibited—such as AI chatbots delivering therapy or AI tools making treatment decisions—what remains permissible, including administrative and supplementary uses, and how providers can adjust policies, supervision, vendor contracts, and documentation to remain compliant.

By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:

Describe the key provisions and restrictions of Illinois’ new AI law for mental health.

Identify the difference between prohibited therapeutic uses of AI and permissible administrative or supplementary uses.

Identify the potential clinical, ethical, and legal implications of the law for mental health practice.

Recent reports from the National Council of Nonprofits and the Center for an Urban Future highlight the scale of the human services staffing crisis. A significant portion of nonprofits report job vacancies, with some estimates as high as 74.6%. This is fueled by high levels of stress and burnout—over half of respondents cited it as a key contributing factor. What can leaders do about this?

Join Social Current’s experts in brain science and trauma-informed approaches for this free webinar that will offer insight into this pressing question. The session will focus on how to move beyond top-down, employee recognition and self-care initiatives to authentically partner with staff to improve engagement, communication, resilience, and retention. This requires empathy, connection, mindfulness, and gratitude from leaders.

While this is a lot to prioritize, the good news is there is a simple, foundational framework that underpins all these topics—the brain and stress response system. Understanding this is the key to creating brain-friendly work environments.

This session will explore concepts and strategies for aligning workplace environments with how the brain thrives. By embracing this orientation, organizations can cultivate a culture where employees can more easily plan, adapt, and innovate—increasing both personal and organizational success.

Individuals with mental health conditions are disproportionately represented in the criminal justice system. Research suggests that more than one-third of individuals arrested in the United States has an underlying mental health condition. In addition, individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders are 12 times more likely to be arrested than general population, and six times more often than individuals with mental illness alone.

These criminal justice contacts pose significant risks to the individuals involved—police encounters may escalate tragically, jail can worsen mental health symptoms, and the lack of mental health treatment available through the criminal justice system means individuals often go without the services they need. Fortunately, there are evidence-based practices and promising strategies that courts and other justice system agencies can use to improve outcomes for individuals with mental health conditions.

In this session, a subject matter expert from All Rise will provide an overview of the Adult Treatment Court Best Practice Standards and highlight best practices and promising strategies implemented by programs from around the country.

Learning Objectives:

Describe how individuals with mental health conditions and co-occurring substance use disorders are overrepresented in the criminal justice system.

Become familiar with the Adult Treatment Court Best Practice Standards and how they apply to individuals with mental health conditions.

Identify best practices and promising strategies to improve outcomes for justice-involved individuals with mental health conditions.

The integration of healthcare in tribal communities necessitates flexibility and collaboration between Western medical practices and Indigenous healing traditions. This session will examine how integrating these models can foster a more comprehensive and culturally responsive approach to care. We will examine strategies for incorporating traditional medicine and healing practices into clinical settings, as well as methods for delivering culturally informed health education both within clinics and in the community. Such educational initiatives will promote prevention, intervention, and postvention for chronic health conditions, encompassing both medical and behavioral aspects. Additionally, we will explore how technological solutions, including telemedicine and remote patient monitoring, can mitigate access barriers and extend the reach of integrated care.

Objectives:

Identify strategies for integrating Indigenous medicine and healing practices into clinic-based care.

Examine how culturally informed health education, both within clinics and in the community, improves prevention, intervention, and postvention for chronic medical and behavioral health conditions.

Collaborate with community-based services, such as community health workers and diabetes educators to enhance integrated care.

Implement telemedicine and remote patient monitoring to patients facing access barriers.

Employ successful strategies grantee programs have applied to strengthen integrated care in their communities.

Credits: 1 hour of ACCME, ANCC, AAPA, ASWB, APA
To receive a certificate of continuing education, attendees must electronically sign-in for the session, participate in the entire live internet activity and complete the online evaluation.
Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a patient-centered approach that supports patients struggling with health behavior change through a proven conversation. The spirit of Motivational Interviewing is collaborative, non-judgmental, and honors the autonomy of the patient.

MI can be a powerful and effective tool in helping individuals discover their reasons for making a change. Although there are simple techniques that can be learned quickly, it takes time and practice to master motivational interviewing so that it can be used most effectively.

The UMass Chan Medical School's Center for Integrated Primary Care's Certificate of Intensive Training in Motivational Interviewing is a semester-long course founded on the principles described by Miller & Rollnick. The evidence tells us that clinicians only begin to successfully use MI when they have had opportunities to engage in the deliberate practice of Motivational Interviewing.

The course engages students beyond the academic understanding of active skills practice through live, online Learning Labs, during which participants will have the opportunity to practice with other students from around the country who are taking the course. Students will also have two one-on-one practice sessions with an experienced MI coach, during which they will demonstrate their skills and receive objective feedback on their strengths and areas for growth. These coachings are professionally coded using the universally accepted MICA tool.

This course is designed for individuals in healthcare fields who wish to become active practitioners of MI. There are no prerequisites.

Patients diagnosed with substance use disorder (SUD) frequently encounter stigma in their personal lives as well as in clinical settings. Consequently, establishing a foundation of trust between these patients and their care teams presents both a significant challenge and a critical necessity.
