The Academy Training and Events calendar is an easy-to-use resource for healthcare professionals across all settings of care and specialties looking for educational opportunities to further their knowledge of integrating behavioral health with primary care. Some training opportunities are available as in-person meetings while others are conducted via live webinar. Opportunities are updated weekly, and the “filter” function can be used to search fields such as event type, location (virtual or in-person), CE/CME availability, and topic. Opportunities are identified from federal agencies and non-federal organizations, academic institutions, government agencies, and member associations conducting work in behavioral health integration.

Professional codes of ethics provide a common set of principles and standards upon which behavioral healthcare teams build their professional work. They have as their goals the welfare and protection of the individuals and groups with whom providers work. They require a lifelong effort to act ethically; to encourage ethical behavior by students, supervisees, employees, and colleagues; and to consult with others concerning ethical problems.

This webinar, hosted by the Indian Health Service (IHS), will explore ethical standards in social media and telehealth as defined by behavioral health profession associations. Circumstances regarding social media and telehealth that are likely to breach ethical conduct will be discussed. Fundamental principles and ethical decision-making will be applied to common dilemmas regarding social media, such as researching a client's background on the internet, providers posting personal information on social media, clients and providers "liking" one another on social media, and duty to warn related to social media postings, etc.

Objectives:

Examine ethical standards in social media and telehealth as defined by behavioral health profession associations.

Identify two circumstances regarding social media and telehealth that are likely to breach ethical conduct.

Apply fundamental principles and ethical decision-making to common dilemmas regarding social media.

Analyze case examples of social media use or telehealth through ethical decision-making.

Credits: 1 hour of ACCME, ANCC, AAPA, ASWB, APA
To receive a certificate of continuing education, attendees must electronically sign-in for the session, participate in the entire live internet activity and complete the online evaluation.

Children and youth are facing increasingly unique mental health challenges, and behavioral health providers are tasked with delivering care that is personalized, evidence-based, and responsive to the evolving needs of young people and their families. Measurement-Based Care (MBC), also known as Measurement-Informed Care (MIC), is a proven framework that empowers clinicians to deliver high quality, evidence based care by leveraging ongoing client-reported data and insights to guide treatment discussions and decisions, and improve outcomes. With the recent updates to CARF’s accreditation standards now requiring MBC within youth services, behavioral health organizations across North America are prioritizing its adoption.

Join this session to explore how MBC is transforming child and youth behavioral healthcare. This interactive panel discussion will feature behavioral health experts from the National Council for Mental Wellbeing, UConn Health, and CARF. Drawing from real-world examples and successful MBC implementations, panelists will share insights and explore strategies to engage young clients and their caregivers, integrate input from schools and care teams, select age-appropriate assessments, and meet CARF accreditation requirements.

Medicaid members experience mental health and substance use disorders at significantly higher rates than other populations — yet, amid a nationwide shortage of behavioral health care providers, access to services remains limited. Although Medicaid includes robust behavioral health care benefits and pays for a greater portion of behavioral health care services than any other insurer in the U.S., workforce shortages are a key barrier to access, especially in rural, low-income, and other underserved communities. In some areas, there are as few as three behavioral health care providers per 1,000 Medicaid members. Half of U.S. counties do not have a practicing psychiatrist, and three fourths of counties are either entirely or partially designated mental health professional shortage areas. With upcoming budget pressures on states, finding innovative strategies that expand, extend, and retain skilled behavioral health care providers is critical.

The workforce shortage is driven by a complex set of challenges, including low reimbursement rates and provider wages, burnout and attrition, and costly, non-transferable professional licensing requirements. State Medicaid agencies can play an important role in addressing these issues, strengthening the behavioral health care workforce, and helping their members access care. In this virtual panel hosted by the Center for Health Care Strategies (CHCS), behavioral health care experts from California, Oregon, and Massachusetts will explore state Medicaid policy levers to strengthen the behavioral health care workforce. Panelists will discuss strategies such as broadening the use of community health workers, peer specialists, lay counselors, and other paraprofessionals; revising payment and reimbursement models; investing in workforce development and provider education; streamlining licensing and accreditation processes; and advancing new care delivery models and technologies.
