The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has released three new videos to help prevent suicide by offering crisis resources to individuals in distress and raising awareness about suicidal behaviors.

  • Suicide Lies: 60 | Prevent Suicide: This video highlights the importance of understanding how suicidal thoughts may distort someone’s mindset.
  • Heart of the Land | Prevent Suicide: Young men in Alaska are greatly affected by suicide. This video encourages these men to use connections with their ancestors and traditions to overcome their pain, their silence, and the stigma around seeking help.
  • Seven Generations | Prevent Suicide: Young American Indian men, particularly those in the Northern Plains, have significantly higher rates of suicide. This video promotes suicide prevention by reminding these men that their time is sacred, their spirit is strong, and they are not alone in coping with the pain that seems beyond their control.

SAMHSA says that “suicide can touch anyone, anywhere, and at any time. But it is not inevitable. There is hope.” The agency offers prevention resources that can help individuals with suicidal ideation/behaviors, as well as family members and friends helping a loved one through a crisis.
