From Sea to Shining Sea: Workforce Efforts to Build Healthy Communities through the National Health Service Corps

SAMHSA’s Bringing Recovery Supports to Scale Technical Assistance Center Strategy (BRSS TACS) invites individuals to learn about the Health Resources & Services Administration’s National Health Service Corps (NHSC) program. NHSC began in 1972 with the aim of building healthy communities by placing qualified healthcare practitioners in underserved areas of the United States. Today, the program continues to address healthcare worker shortages in rural, urban, and tribal communities, in an effort to ensure access to care for everyone, prevent disease and illness, and care for vulnerable and underserved people.

Presenters will discuss the increasing need for providers who can treat mental and substance use disorders in underserved communities, describe their own experience in the NHSC, and provide information on the application process.
