The ASAM Treatment of Opioid Use Disorder Course

The American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) is offering an 8-hour course covering all medications and treatments for opioid use disorder, and provides the required education needed to obtain the waiver to prescribe buprenorphine. The course will be in a blended format combining live and online learning. The first half of the course is delivered by recognized national experts in a 4-hour interactive and engaging virtual classroom setting. The second half of the course is administered online through 4 hours of independent self-paced learning. ASAM is an approved provider by CSAT/SAMHSA of DATA 2000 training.

The course covers the following topics:

  • Assessing patients for the full spectrum of harmful opioid use including misuse and use disorders
  • Identifying and assessing patients who are appropriate for treatment with medications for an opioid use disorder in an office-based setting
  • Describing procedures for initiating, stabilizing, maintaining, monitoring, and modifying treatment of patients on buprenorphine or naltrexone
  • Summarizing the assessment and management of patients with psychiatric and medical co-morbidities associated with opioid use disorders
