AB - Data from the 2004 Household Component of the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS-HC) reveals that Hispanic adults with limited English proficiency (LEP) are a distinct population subgroup from English-proficient Hispanic adults. LEP Hispanic adults are more likely to be poor/low income, less educated, older, not employed, uninsured, without a usual source of care, and without a visit to a doctor or dentist than English-proficient Hispanic adults. English-proficient Hispanic adults are similarly disadvantaged compared to white non-Hispanic adults, and also have lower utilization.The estimates in this report are based on the most recent data available at the time the report was written. However, selected elements of MEPS data may be revised on the basis of additional analyses, which could result in slightly different estimates from those shown here.
